Buchanan, conductor New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Journey into the most profound reaches of the soul with Mozart, the guiding spirit of this unique program. The MSU ensemble brings exquisite luster to a moving pair of a cappella works. Performed without intermission, the evening culminates in Mozart’s awe-inspiring Requiem, his final gift to the ages. Mozart Ave verum corpus Stately, filled with grace; suspends time with a long-breathed melody. Rheinberger Abendlied for a cappella chorus Parry Flame for a cappella chorus Rheinberger’s consoling piece proclaims: “Bide with us, for evening shadows darken, and the day will soon be over.” Parry’s contemporary work strikes a hopeful note with a quote from the Buddha: “A single flame that shares its light is but strengthened by this splitting in two.” Mozart Requiem Was Mozart writing his own epitaph with this shattering work? Once experienced, it is never forgotten. This program will be performed without intermission.
