This beautiful stirring account of the struggle of Turner to liberate his people contains beautiful arioso work and choral works never to be forgotten. The wonderful ballet at the start of the Overture until the riot itself, the audience will be thrilled to see, hear, and learn the significance and importance of the Nat Turner Rebellion. Join us prior to the performance for a heated discussion on the film. They called him “The Prophet”. Nat Turner, the slave who led a rebellion to free his own people from the horrors of slavery. Nat Turner. Nat Turner, spoke of his mother, a woman of Africa calling him in love to be strong. Turner was known to be a very brilliant individual and a deeply religious man. A preacher, moved from plantation to plantation preaching the word of God. He would use the scripture to teach concepts of freedom and confidence in oneself. His rebellion caught on like wildfire when moving from one plantation to another killing all in his path with whom he felt were responsible for the destruction of black families. He would kill slave owners both men and women and children that would abuse black people in anyway. He eventually was taken and hung and killed and Black people , his followers, were hurt and killed, as well as a result of the rebellion of Turner. Michael Raphael uses ballet and chorus to convey the sounds and moves of this rebellion. He shows the individuals who worked closely with Nat, and develops these characters in arioso form. A real real fury, musically, and full of intellectual thought and scholarship.
