Daryl Sherman has been a part of the New York City jazz and cabaret scenes since the mid-1970s, one of the rare singer-pianists equally adept in both roles. Sherman is a unique stylist at the keyboard, charming, quick-witted, and able to make herself at home in any musical setting. When Artie Shaw formed a new band after his retirement, Sherman was his chosen singer. Since then, she’s appeared with Wynton Marsalis and his Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, with Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, and has led her own stellar ensembles in addition to her solo work. A three-time MAC Award winner, Sherman is highly praised for her knowledge of the Great American Songbook. When she brings Look for the Silver Lining to NJPAC, Sherman will be joined by journalist and historian Guy Sterling, who will share stories about Kern’s life and musical influences. “Daryl Sherman has an impeccable, delightful, swinging, signature sound,” says The New York Times , “a stylistic compendium of Billie Holiday and Blossom Dearie.”
