America, Inspiring: Ravel & Rachmaninoff America has always been a place of monumental inspiration, feeding the ideals of people from all over the world. This season’s Winter Festival celebrated artist who found creative inventiveness within this great nation, featuring works from Britten, Ravel, Korngold and more. The Festival closes with the treasured symphony that embodies America’s embrace of creativity, Dvořák’s “New World.” Andrew Constantine conductor Terrence Wilson piano New Jersey Symphony Orchestra The searing energy of jazz, the speed and power of a fighter plane – these emblems of American ingenuity captured the imagination of Ravel and Martinů. Acclaimed pianist Terrence Wilson, a Montclair resident, dazzles in Ravel’s colorful concerto. Martinu Thunderbolt P-47 (NJSO Premiere) A stirring homage by a Czech composer to his adopted home, the USA; a tribute to the eponymous aircraft and its brave pilots. Ravel Piano Concerto in G Major After Ravel met Gershwin in New York, he went back to Europe to write this jazzy, mesmerizing concerto. Rachmaninoff Symphonic Dances Bursting with energy; with nods to Russian liturgical chant and American jazz.
