    Credit Cards

Major credit cards are accepted at all hotels, and most restaurants and stores in the region. Planning to rent a car? You will need a major credit card to procure a rental anywhere in the United States and most likely to purchase event tickets too. Your credit card will often get you the best rate while traveling internationally and some cards may even waive the currency conversion fees. Don’t forget to alert your bank and credit company that you will be traveling to ensure seamless transactions.

    Misplaced your card, contact:
    Diners Club (800-234-6377)
    Discover (800-347-2683)
    MasterCard (800-826-2181)
    Visa (800-336-8472)
    American Express (800-528-4800)

The almighty dollar is the standard currency in Newark and throughout the United States, often referred to as a buck. Coins come in denominations of 1¢ (penny), 5¢ (nickel), 10¢ (dime), 25¢ (quarter). Quarters come in especially handy at area parking meters. Banks are generally open Monday – Friday 9am-5pm.

    ATMs
Automatic teller machines are everywhere, in banks, shops, and delis giving you 24-hour access to your money. Service fees vary wildly, so know before you go. Check with your local bank for partnership programs to avoid paying large foreign transactions fees and fees for banking outside of your system. ATMs make it easy to get cash when you need it. Take out what you need when you need it and it will even be in the correct currency.
