    In Newark and across America, happy hour is an increasingly ubiquitous institution. After all, who doesn’t love a few hours at the end of the day when you’re guaranteed to get the best boozy bang for your buck? Luckily, there are a ton of Newark establishments that offer happy hour enjoyment, ranging from well-known haunts to brand new hot spots.

     And since happy hour is your reward for a weekday well done, it’s important to be in the know about who has the best deals on any given day. Luckily, your cocktail-savvy Glambassador has compiled a list of Newark’s must try happy hours. Without further ado, below is The Glambassador’s Guide to Newark’s Hottest Happy Hours.

    Mompou, 77 Ferry St. - Just a short walk from Newark Penn Station, Mompou is a modern bistro with great ambiance, authentic tapas and a lovely back patio for lounging. Known for innovative cocktails, head to Mompou for happy hour on Tuesday to Friday from 4-7 pm for $7 cocktails, $5 glasses of wine and $5 tapas.

    Marcus B&P, 56 Halsey St. - Located in the newly redeveloped Hahne & Co. Building downtown, this intimate and high end space is the latest venture from acclaimed chef and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson. Don’t miss happy hour Tuesday through Friday, from 3 to 6 pm, which features $6 beers on tap, $7 house wine and $8 signature cocktails. The cornbread is an absolute must!

    Dutch’s, 24 E. Park St. - Be transported to another time and place when you visit Dutch’s Restaurant in the brand new TRYP By Wyndham hotel. Take in the sleek decor and swanky ambiance as you sit for a spell at this hotel bar. Although the cocktails are pricey, during happy hour guests enjoy 20% off their entire bill.

    Noodle Shop & Bar, 218 Market St. - Hot ramen and cold cocktails? Now that’s a winning combination! The latest establishment on what’s becoming Newark’s very own Restaurant Row, Noodle Shop has Happy Hour specials from 3-8pm (on non-Prudential Center event days) that pair perfectly with their tasty bowls and appetizers.

    The Ainsworth, 810 Broad Street - Located in the Hotel Indigo, The Ainsworth has a restaurant/bar space on the first floor as well as an open air rooftop space with NYC views. Happy Hour is from 4-7pm, with $5 beers and half priced wine. Other specialty nights include Steak Mondays (½ priced select steaks and beer pitchers), Taco Tuesdays (½ priced tacos and $5 Mexican beers) and Burgers & Bourbon Wednesdays (free bourbon with any burger).

    Barcade, 494 Broad St. - An arcade plus a bar equals an instant good time! Head here for happy hour, Monday through Friday from noon to 7 pm, featuring $1 off beer, wine on tap and well drinks, $10 for a select beer and a shot of Four Roses Yellow Label, and half price plates  (some exclusions apply). Students can take advantage of Barcade’s Late Night College Happy Hour each Monday through Thursday from 9pm-12am. Bring a valid college ID and get $2 off any beer or pay just $5 for a bar pie!

    Nico Kitchen + Bar , 1 Center St. - Located in New Jersey’s premiere performing arts center, NJPAC, Nico is a Diner’s Choice Award winner with an upscale vibe. Happy Hour is a great time to get to know Nico. Visit any Monday through Friday from 4 pm to 7 pm for $4 draft beers, $5 select wines, and $6 specialty martinis.

    Eleven Clinton, 11 Clinton St - A new hotspot downtown, Eleven Clinton not only specializes in live jazz, but has one of the most reasonable happy hours in town. From Wednesday through Sunday from 4 to 7 pm, guests can take advantage of $3 well drinks, $3 wine, $3 drafts and $3.50 bar food including wings, mini burgers, catfish nuggets and soul rolls.

    City Rub Smokehouse, 118 Stockton St. - Have a dining experience like no other at this smokehouse specializing in southern cuisine with a Brazilian twist. Happy hour specials are available each Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 pm, including $5 caipirinhas, $3 glasses of wine and $1 budweiser pints. On Thursdays, enjoy 50 cent wings from 4 pm to close.

    Catas Restaurant, 538 Market St. - Catas is an Ironbound favorite known for traditional tapas and a taste of Barcelona. Grab a great deal every Wine Down Wednesday (half price bottle of wines) or partake in their top notch happy hour each weekday from 3 to 7 pm. Specials include $2 domestics, $3 premium drafts, $4 house wines, $5 well drinks and half price pitchers of sangria!

    Hell’s Kitchen Lounge, 150 Lafayette St. - This trendy pub has a kitschy, downtown vibe and features a different theme (and corresponding happy hour) each weeknight. Happy Hour runs from 4 to 7 pm with specials including $2.75 domestic drafts, $11 domestic pitchers, $18 sangria pitchers, $5 house wines and $5 well drinks.

    Suite 304, 304 University Ave. - Suite 304, formerly Skipper’s Place Street Pub, is a new downtown venue owned by husband and wife team, Liz and Sam. Head there for happy hour drink and food specials from 4 to 7 pm, and enjoy Chef Michael’s Italian specialties including calamari fritti and short ribs with a real wow factor.

    27 Mix, 27 Halsey St. - A well-known favorite amongst the growing downtown restaurant scene, 27 Mix is a tasty fusion of Southwestern, Asian and Italian cuisine. Take advantage of its weekday happy hour from 4 to 6 pm, featuring $4 drafts, $4 house wines and $4 mixed drinks. Wine lover? Enjoy 1/2 priced bottles of wine each Wednesday.

    Redd’s Biergarten, 37 Edison Pl. - The traditional outdoor German beer garden has moved indoors! Redd’s sits across from The Rock and is known for its “5 Hour $5 Happy Hour” available seven days a week. From 2 to 7 pm, enjoy $5 appetizers, $5 craft/import half liters, $5 house wines and $5 well drinks.
