Animodules are a Newark original art form that has become synonymous with self-expression, creativity and community. They are giant 8-foot high mobile sculptures, created by artists in residence, working with schools and communities and each sculpture represents between 8-16 weeks of workshop time. The Barat Foundation has partnered with over 50 schools creating the Animodules, which stand in their communities year round as mascots and totems of creative collaboration. Each year, in an act of community unity and creative celebration all the Animodules march in the “Creation Nation Art and Peace Parade” down the streets of Newark flanked by marching bands, artists and the students that created them. The sculptures have become official icons of inner city renaissance and young creative potential.
