From the earliest groups to settle in Newark to the latest, traditional flavors of Latin America to modern twists on classic dishes, Latino-owned businesses in Newark and the surrounding areas offer a culinary journey that is yes, delicious, as well as save you hours on flights. Here’s a list of just some Latino-owned spots that are worth a visit and a handful I simply love.

El Merengue

La casa del mangu y el mofongo. Whether the buffet for lunch or stopping by for the bar or lounge for a live performance, this Dominican restaurant is located in North Newark opposite Technology High School yet it will make you feel like an old-school familiy function. 

El Rincon Latino Restaurant

A little taste of their Latin roots, Downtown Newark and two blocks from Prudential Center and Military Park. Serving vegetarian dishes as well as a kids' menu.
